You can do it wherever you live, and you can even do it from your couch! You don’t have to actually work up a sweat to be a virtual runner and help the kids!
The Butterfly Run is a family fitness event to grow awareness, break stigmas, and raise funds for lifesaving pediatric behavioral health research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Generously supported by Big Lots, the Butterfly Run was launched in 2018 with races in Columbus, OH, Phoenix, AZ, and Charlotte, NC. In 2019, runners gathered in Columbus while others around the country continued to support the cause from afar. Proceeds benefit behavioral health research to gather new knowledge and share it globally to improve outcomes for children everywhere.
Seventy-five percent of lifetime mental illnesses are present by age 24. With the soaring demand for mental health treatment for young people comes a steep rise in the complexity and severity of their illnesses. Together, we can work toward a new future that overcomes the stigma often associated with mental health issues, while also linking arms to fund research into the causes and best treatment options.
You can be a “virtual runner” to help fundraise for the cause until December 31, 2019. It makes for a great way to sweat off all those holiday turkey dinners!
