On December 2, 1959 Douglas "Dougie" Reed Smith was born in Findlay, Ohio. He had an older brother, Robert "Bob" Smith, and would eventually have a younger brother, Steven Smith, and younger sister, Susan "Susie" Smith.
When Dougie's parents, Veronica "Lee" Smith and Charles Smith, discovered he was sick, they took him to Columbus Children's Hospital to be treated for leukemia. Now called Nationwide Children's Hospital, Columbus Children's Hospital took care of Dougie at a time when cancer treatment was much less advanced than it is today. Dougie and his family fought his brave battle until he went to Heaven on May 1, 1962.
We do all of this in loving memory of our Uncle Dougie to celebrate him and his parents, brothers, and sister. Thankfully, research and treatment for cancer (and other illnesses) has come so far in 60 years since Dougie was born, but there is still so much more research that can be done. This is why it is so important to support organizations as incredible as Nationwide Children's. They do so much GOOD for so many children and families, and together we can help so they can do even MORE good.
One way you can help is to participate in the Columbus Duck Race. This event is hosted by the Development Board of Nationwide Children's Hospital and benefits Nationwide Children's Hospital. This year, 70% of profits from all of MADFuns' + BeeGeeTees' Duck Race items will be sent directly to the Abigail Wexner Research Institute.
Thank you for your support. Together we can help change lives, one duck at a time.
