My Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon & 1/2 Marathon Fundraising Page!
Hi! Thank you so much for visiting my Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon fundraising page! I am so proud to be one of "Charlie's Champion's" this year for the marathon! Charlie Hill is an amazing little boy, who will be our hero at Mile 7 of the full and half-marathon this Sunday. Let me tell you a little bit about him and why I am asking for your support!
Charlie's dad, Jason Hill, works with me. Jason and his wife Meg are wonderful parents! They learned that Charlie had Down Syndrome when Meg was 19 weeks pregnant. When Charlie was born, it was a very typical delivery. But, the day after they were discharged from the hospital at their very first pediatrician appointment, the doctor noticed that Charlie's body temperature and his oxygen were low. After additional testing, Charlie was rushed to the ER at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where he was admitted into the NICU.
This was, of course, a terrifying time for the Hill family, filled with nights when Jason and Meg didn't know if Charlie was going to make it. Eventually, the doctors found that Charlie's pancreas was wrapped around his small intestine, causing a blockage. He needed a lifesaving surgery.
In all, Charlie spent 30 petrifying days in the NICU. Thankfully, because of the amazing care and compassion from all of the healthcare providers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Charlie recovered and is now a joyful 3 year-old! They saved his life and eased the pain of two new and very scared parents. Charlie continues to receive a number of services through Children’s Hospital, including speech and physical therapy and services from the ear, nose, and throat care unit; the endocrinology and cardiology units; and the Down Syndrome Clinic.
Today, Charlie is thriving! He is a very happy little boy, who loves bubbles, waving to strangers -- and non-strangers, alike -- and walking around with his walker. Please help me support Charlie and the wonderful care-givers at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
Charlie is my inspiration for the marathon this year. I injured my hip in December and wasn't sure if I'd ever be able to run another marathon. Knowing that Charlie will be at Mile 7 to cheer me on this year -- whether I am running or walking -- I KNOW I can do it!
Please consider joining me in supporting the most meaningful marathon in the country by making a donation today. I am very, very grateful!
XOXO -- Ann
