In memory of our beautiful boys, Colin & Griffin Chapman
To our phenomenal Colin & Griffin’s Gang supporters,
It’s time for the 2019 season! This is our third year commemorating our twin boys, Colin & Griffin, who were born and died on Monday morning, May 29th, 2017 due to prematurity. You can read our full story on Colin & Griffin’s Gang team home page (blue link to the right).
Over the last two years, we have received an abundance of feedback regarding our strength and transparency. Derek and I feel as though we DO have a choice on how we continue living and loving here on earth. We choose to sit in the grief when it visits, which is often and not always comfortable. We also choose to celebrate our blessings, which we do more often than ever before. By doing so, we are better human beings than we were before Colin & Griffin joined our family, something my heart consistently thanks the boys for.
Our family has gotten to this point for a variety of reasons, but one of the biggest reasons is YOU. You not only remember the names “Colin and Griffin,” but you let us know that you remember. Derek and I have few tangible reminders of the boys: their ashes in the dining room, birth/death certificates, a black and white photo hanging in the living room. But we also have Colin & Griffin’s Gang. Being able to raise money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital in memory of the twins is one of two circumstances surrounding their death that brings us JOY (Ms. Molly is the other!). You have no idea how many C&G Gang supporters have met new people when they're wearing their shirts and say "Hey! How do you know the Chapmans?" We LOVE SEEING YOU WEAR YOUR SHIRTS! The unending grace & love bestowed upon us from our family, our friends, our community and complete strangers over the last 2.5 years has been life altering. Thank you for showing us how wonderful humankind can be.
To date, we have raised over $25,000! We are perpetually amazed by the kindness, patience and generosity you continue to bestow upon us. We have big goals this year: raise $8,000 as a team, have at least 20 C&G Gang members running/walking on race day, and of course, a stellar showing of support at the Angel Mile to remember all our sweet kiddos who are no longer with us (mile 11). An exciting thing about this year is DADDY IS RUNNING! This will be Derek's first half and he has been training hard. He is also fundraising on Colin & Griffin's Gang, so feel free to click his page and donate there instead of me as it all goes to NCH. If he gets to $5,000, I will be making rainbow tutus for him and his best friends who are also running (he doesn't know this yet)!! A second way to support Colin & Griffin's Gang is to purchase shirts, which is a separate website (see my facebook). About half of the cost of the shirts will then be donated to efforts for NCH.
While there will never be enough time or adequate words to do so appropriately, THANK YOU for playing such a pivotal role in our journey of hope and transformation. I recently came across the following reading and have fallen in love with it:
"Life is amazing. And then it's awful. And then it's amazing again. And in between the amazing and the awful its ordinary and mundane and routine. Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax and exhale during the oridinary. That's just living heartbreaking, soul-healing, amazing, awful, ordinary life. And it's breathtakingly beautiful." -LR Knost
All our love,
Grace Chapman & Family
