Welcome to Chrissie's #conqueringCHD page!
Thank you for visiting my Children's Champion page! Team #HeartHopeRun is celebrating Year 2 after a great inaugural year, raising over $2000!!
Many know my personal mission- conquering CHD (congenital heart disease) one step at a time. This means helping to make more "normal" days through research, advocacy, and volunteering.
Congenital Heart Disease is the #1 birth defect here in America, affecting 40,000 kids each year. We are making strides with nearly 90% of those kids reaching the age 18, and the adult congenital heart disease is increasing by leaps and bounds.
I too am a patient at NCH at 38 years old in the Adult Congenital Heart Disease area. I lived my childhood normally until 24 when doctors discovered a hole the size of a quarter between my atria (ASD). One of the simplest CHDs nearly took my life away. I thought I was healed after closing that hole, but later found out CHD is a disease that requires lifelong care and checkups. Heart rates of 225 are not normal when running I found out. With proper care and therapy, the ACHD program got me ready for the NCH Columbus half marathon on my 13.1 year "heartiversary"on October 16, 2016. This year, I run for all my heart warriors I met along the way, some now passed, some still struggling, and some enjoying life as "normal" heart warriors. We will #conqueringchd #inthislifetime.
A little update: Like many CHDers, our "normal days" sometimes get interrupted by a "hiccup." My new "hiccup" is iron-deficiency anemia. I'm currently undergoing iron infusions with blood transfusions. But have no fear! I will be running/walking on October 15.
Team #HeartHopeRun: runs for all heart warriors, young and younger, and gives hope for all CHDers.
Please join me and consider supporting the most meaningful marathon in the country by making a donation today. Heck! Join our TEAM #HeartHopeRun!!
